SWAG Northern Regional Branch Inaugurated
The Northern Regional Sports Writers' Association (SWAG) was inaugurated on Saturday 31st August 2020 as branch with affiliation to the National body.
The Inauguration which took place at Pioneer Guests House in Tamale under the supervision of SWAG national President Kwabena Yeboah sworn into office 6 regional executives to be acting in interim capacity with two (2) year mandate.
Addresing SWAG members in Northern region, the national President Kwabena Yeaboah gave a brief history about formation of SWAG and outstanding works by his predecessors before he assumed the role as the national president in this contemporal times.
The veteran commentator also underscores the need to bring several sports journalist with diverse backgrounds across the country under one Unbrella in order to sanitize the system.
According to him this forms part of his agenda of inaugurating regional bodies recognized by the national body.
Speaking on the benefits, he revealed that members will be issued with AIPS cards which are especial cards recognized all over the world. With this card, members will be given special and preferential treatment by any immigration authority hen they travel abroad he added.
Kwabena Yeboah further reiterited his commitment to organize serminars, workshops for members in the region to upgrade their knowledge and skills in conformity with changing trends in the industry.
Speaking under the theme: 'The Modern Day Sports Journalist; prospects and Challenges'. The Northern regional Football Association Chairman Alhaj Abu Hassan Rhyzos Who was the guest speaker for the occassion charged SWAG members to do what he described as 'self scanning' by identifying their capabilities.
This he believes will help them perform as class act but not being as nuisance to their audience.
He also urged members to be receiptive to new ideas and team player at their various work places.
On his part as chairman for the occassion, Adam Shaibu Wilberforce implored on the sports Journalist to read wide in search of knowledge to benefit their audience and also impact change to society.
The retired educationist also appealed to the National president of SWAG Kwabena Yeboah to make efforts and organize workshops and serminars for members to enhance and sharpen their knowledge in the game.
For some time now, SWAG led by Kwabena Yeboah has been embarking on national exercise with inauguration of regional branches across the nation with the intention of bringing members under one body.
Volta, Ashanti, Bono and Eastern regions have already been inaugurated by Swag as interim regional branches. Latest to follow is the Northern regional branch as its members were also duly now inaugurated.
