Bawumia Commissions Ultramodern Astro Turf in Walewale under Zongo Development Fund
Wednesday November 25 2020 will go down in the history of football in the North East Region as an unforgettable day. The newly built Astro Turf was opened for its first ever official match in Walewale last night. A Select Side in the town engaged a division 3 club from Bolgatanga, Boison FC.
Even before kick-off, the mini stadium was filled to capacity as children and adults made their way to the venue to catch a glimpse of history as it's made. Right from kickoff, it was end-to-end stuff as either side was poised to open the scoring. The first goal came from the foot of Raphael Koomson, who registered his name as the scorer of the first official goal in the new stadium. The pacy winger left his markers in his wake to finish beyond the goalkeeper.
The lead boosted their confidence as they looked to have killed the game at half-time with a 3-0 advantage. However, the Boison boys rallied to pull one back and then failed to score from the spot after the referee awarded them a penalty. Goalkeeper Hakim was able to palm away the tame effort.
The MCE of the Municipality, Mr. Aremeyaw Somo Lucky was seen urging the fans not to relent in their 'jama' to spur the home side to victory. Duly, they scored two more goals to win 5-1 after 90 minutes of play. Fans left the stands and run onto the pitch to hug their heroes and take photos with them.
