ESRA foundation supports victims of flood in Sugtampia
Following the recent spillage of the bagre Dam in Burkina Faso and the subsequent torrential rainfalls, Sugutampia, a community in the Savelugu Municipality submerged in water, destroying farm lands and other valuable items belonging to residents of the community as well as displacing many.
For this reason, a benevolent organization based in Turkey 'Education and Social Relief Agency' with a branch in Tamale has distributed 2500 packets of cooked food and 2000 pieces of used clothing the community to help alleviate their plight as most of the victims are unable to meet three square meals a day, as a result of the flooding.
Sugutampia, has a population of about 678 residents whose main economic activities are farming and fishing. The community was greatly affected by the flooding that occurred due to the spillage of the bagre dam, pulling down 88 houses.
N/R director of ESRA foundation, Mohammed Naziru, said the organization sympathize with the victims,thus the gesture. Adding that, he did a personal inspection to ascertain the extent of damage before getting in touch with the foundation's donors for support. The food distribution according to him,will continue for 3 days.
The assembly man for the community and other residents who spoke to Saganitvonlie.com, express their appreciation and appealed to other organization and influential individuals to still come to their aid.
