It Wouldn’t Make Sense to Celebrate Women’s Day When Pregnant Women Continue to Die on Our Roads – Cherembo Chief
Cherembo community has inhabitants of about five hundred (500) and lacks an accessible road to connect other communities. The community is under the Pru West District Assembly of the Bono East Region and has been suffering anytime there is the need to travel to the market center or access a health facility.
The chief of Cherembo Traditional area, Cherembowura Wucharre II in an interview with saganitvonline.com during our visit to the community said, lack of accessible road to the community contributes to post harvest losses every farming season.
He narrated how farmers after a season harvest tried bringing vehicles to convey their produce but upon knowing that the road is not motorable they refuse to come and the situation has always deter farmers from investing into farming.
The chief also lamented over how the road had claimed lives of pregnant women over the years. According to him, many people including children who ply the road with the use motorbikes now spend several hours to and from their various destinations.
Cherembowura Wucharre II therefore appealed to the president H.E. Nana Addo Dankwa Akuffo Addo to instruct the roads Minister to come their rescue in fixing the Cherembo community road.
Expressing his frustration on the matter, and speaking on behalf of the youth in the community, Mr. Seidu Wucharre said the road is a major challenge to the youth.
This he said is hampering the development of the community because people who wish to invest in the area are reluctant. Adding that, many businesses have been affected due to the bad nature of the road.
The Assemblyman for the area hon. Samson Mbamoi in an interaction said there are a number of roads in his electoral area that have been awarded to contract and that, the next road to see a facelift through the Member of Parliament (MP) is the Cherembo - Zanbarima road which he is optimistic that it would come to fruition.
