Kunyevila floods: Hundreds still left homeless after torrential rains on Sunday

Residents of 'Kunyevila’ in the Sagnarigu constituency were left in great shock and anxiety after their homes were flooded by water following torrential rain falls.

 

The heavy downpour which occurred on Sunday 4th October 2020 at around 2:00PM in Tamale and lasted about 2 hours wrecked havoc on so many homes in the community as households were inundated with flood waters, rendered residents homeless and a damage caused to properties, including personal belongings of flood victims. Their belongings worth thousands of Ghana cedis destroyed included fridges, beds and wardrobes.

 

The disaster resulted in great uncertainty among residents in the area.

 

In an interview with Sagani News, residents blamed authorities in the area for failing to put needed mechanism in place to avert the perennial flooding in the community.

 

They attributed the absence of drainage system in the community couple with a diversion of waterways to the community from a filling station sited along the main Shishegu road as root cause of the flooding situation faced them after the heavy downpour.

Meanwhile, residents in the area are appealing to authorities especially the MCE and MP to come to their aid by finding a lasting solution to the perpetual problem.
