NPP cannot claim credit for peace in Dagbon; stop provoking us – Minority leader to Bawumia

Minority leader Haruna Iddrisu has lashed out at Vice president Dr.Mahamudu Bawumia for asking people of the Dagbon Kingdom to renew the mandate of Nana Akufo-Addo as president of the republic for restoring peace in Dagbon which subsequently lead to the installment  of new  Yaa-Naa for the first time in 17 years.

It would be recalled that after a courtesy call on the Yaa-Naa Abubakari II, the vice president on 4th September 2020 as part of his working visit to the Northern region said, people of Dagbon owe Akufo Addo another term of office for the restoration of peace to Dagbon.

Responding to this comment, the MP for Tamale South constituency says Dagombas do not owe Akuffo Addo administration anything, hence Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia and the NPP should be ignored for what he described as ‘propaganda’.

He also suggested that by these comments, Dr.Mahamudu Bawumia is provoking the people in the Dagbon Kingdom by refreshing memories of the incident that happened 2002.

According to him: “When Dr. Bawumia went to Yendi he said Dagombas  we owe this government a gratitude or something. He should just ask himself who caused the mess in Dagbon 2002. He must take full responsibility for the happenings in 2002, that dastardly murder of Yaa-Naa and therefore if he wakes up today and want to take credit, then that is unfortunate”.

“He must accept that the then NPP goverment was irresponsible and there was a national security failure to protect the Yaa-Naa and 42 others under their own watch. So he should stop provoking us by saying that we owed him gratitude; we don’t owe him anything” he added

The president was not also spared, as the minority leader chastised him for inspecting projects in Upper East region initiated by him under erstwhile administration.

“He (president) went there to inspect Tamri Nasia,Libga irrigation project that was initiated by me as  Minister for Trade and Industry. And in the new NDC manifesto we will do Sabari, Pagazaa,Amate and Buem in the Eastern Region and Central Region”

Haruna Iddrisu was addressing party crowd in a campaign launch by NDC sward executives at Nakpazoo in Lamashegu under Tamale South constituency on Friday 09/10/2020.
