N/R: Aggrieved teachers storm GES office over promotions
Some aggrieved teachers calling themselves 'concerned unupgraded Teachers’ on August 31, 2021 picketed at the premises of the Northern regional office of Ghana education Service over delay in upgrading them to Superintendent positions following a successful completion of their degree programmes for over three years now.
Their protest follows several appeals including series of meetings and countless petitions written to the GES through authorities in Northern region for consideration yielded no results up till now.
The aggrieved teachers are concerned that their colleagues in other regions, especially those in Savannah and North-East regions have been upgraded to Superintendent Positions but cannot fathom why theirs are still hanging, let alone a clear direction from Ghana Education Service as to when they will initiate steps to promote them to higher ranks per their qualifications.
Venting their spleen on record to Saganitvonline.com, the teachers brandished authorities of Ghana Education Service in the Northern region including the regional education director Dr. Peter Assifuah as 'incompetent' for failing to upgrade them upon completion of Sandwich degree educational programme since 2019.
Leader of the aggrieved teachers Abdul Hafis speaking in an interview laments that, "we completed our university education since 2019 and ever since we applied to be upgraded to higher ranks, they refused to listen to us. The information we got the last time director general came to Tamale is that, he authorized for us to be upgraded but that has not been done just yet"
He further disclosed that this is not the first time they have picketed at headquarters of GES in Northern region. According to him, they would not relent on their efforts until their demands are met.
The aggrieved teachers went through the Sandwich Modular courses to acquire a degree certificate in education.
