Saving Tamale of filth: Regional minister launches operation ‘Clean Northern Region’
The Northern regional minister Hon. Shani Alhassan Shaibu in conjunction with Zoomlion Ghana on May 29, 2021 launched an operation ‘Clean Northern Region’ project, targeted at improving health of the people in Northern Region.
The clean-up exercise is aimed at getting rid of filth in the region whiles creating good hygienic and sanitary condition as well as safe and conducive environment to live in.
In a brief address at the launch, the Regional Minister declared that, every last Saturday of each month will be marked as regional sanitation day.
Saturday May 29, 2021 which was the last Saturday of the month of May marked the maiden edition of the operation ’Clean Northern Region’ initiated by the Northern Region minister.
The exercise started from the Tamale Jubilee park through Tamale township to the Sagnarigu municipal areas where filth, plastics, rubbers were swept, cleaned and collected by Zoomlion Ghana.
Other places that were cleaned include the central business district, Aboabo, Taxi round, Abattoir and the market places within Tamale metropolis. Filth that was left uncollected was collected by Zoomlion.
In an interview with Sagani news, the minister says the initiative is to provide a safe and conducive environment to the people of Northern Region.
Meanwhile the minister reveals that, measures have been put in place to deal with anyone who disposes waste indiscriminately.
On his part, the Northern regional manager for Zoomlion, Peter Dawuni lauded the initiative by the Northern regional minister, saying it will go a long way to complement the efforts of Zoom Lion Ghana.
He also indicated that, before the initiative will be successful, the attitude of the people must change through getting dust bins in their various homes for disposal of waste.
