Water crisis in Yendi: Yaa-Naa Inspects ongoing dredging at river-Dakar
Attempts by the King and Overlord of Dagbon Yaa-Naa Abukari II to ensure end of the perennial water crises in Yendi and its environs are yielding positive results as His Majesty supervised the commencement of the Dredging of the Dakar River in Yendi on Friday April 16, 2021 by engineers of the Eastern corridor constructions in collaboration with union of tipper drivers in the Yendi Municipality.
In an interaction with Sagani Tv, the PRO to the Gbewaa Palace Mr. Yakubu Musah could not hide his excitement about the start of the work. According to him, it is going to be a permanent solution to the water crisis in Yendi.
He however called on individuals as well as institutions to assist the King to fulfill this task by supporting in cash and kind towards the project.
The Regional production manager of the Ghana Water Company Limited (GWCL) Mr. Nicholas Okyere thanked the King for his show of compassion to his people and appealed that the banks of the river be prevented from farming activities which would lead to subsequent silting of the river after rains.
The king instructed a formation of a committee to ensure the banks of the river are safe from any activities which could lead the subsequent silting of the river.
The Dredging according to engineers of the Eastern Corridor constructions is expected to last for two weeks.
